Poland is Invaded and Defeated
Two days after Germany invaded Poland, Great Britain and France had already declared war on Germany. Because Germany had signed the Nazi-Soviet Pact with USSR, they began to focus the majority of their attention on the western front. As these events were occurring, Great Britain and France were establishing fortifications on the Western Front in preparation for the German blitzkrieg and luftwaffe. The French fortifications that were located on the border between France
Germany, Belgium and Luxembourg is known as the Maginot Line. As you can see on the map to the right, the French fortifications were significantly weaker in the north, and much stronger on the direct border between France and Germany.
