There’s only so loudly that I can sing

But for today, all of the world’s a stage

So I suppose we’ll try this opera thing

And just hope that we’re all on the same page

Giovani Liete takes a lot of air

And at once we all just steal the spotlight

To sing Italian means a bit of flair

But hey, it sounds great once we get it right

Sing with a smile and with joyful eyes

And with full lungs we power through a phrase

It’s through this song that all our divas rise

And trill as though delivering cheerful praise

I take a deep breath and go through the line

Singing as though every word is mine

Inspired by Giovani Liete

Sonnet by Tess Manjarrez ‘19

Prelude to Peace is one of my favorite songs we are singing for the 2018 spring concert. My favorite quote from the original poem, which sadly isn’t in the actual song is “you are the rarest soul I ever knew”. As you read the poem, you begin to understand the unconditional love between the couple. When I read this poem I thought of my trip to Paris which is fitting for our concert theme being “All the World’s a Stage”. Paris is known as the city of love and when singing it, I picture 2 people in love in Paris.
