Au Joly Jeu is a very typical madrigal, and although the music is in 16th century tonality, the lyrics are not very different from what you would hear in a pop song today. Probably the hardest part of learning this piece was the French. French is not an easy language, especially when sung. Luckily, we had a French-speaker in the class which proved to be very helpful.

O Know To End

O Know To End is the first movement of a 6-movement piece titled The Hour Glass, written by Irving Fine in 1949. I would say that it is the most musically sophisticated piece we are singing this concert. The first few times we rehearsed there was a lot of focus on getting the notes right, and I think we had to remind ourselves to actually put it together into one work. I think that was definitely the most challenging part of the piece: Taking the individual parts that we worked on and welding them into one cohesive piece.
