Along with these laws and restrictions, African Americans also fell victim to psychological and physical attacks from whites. Many African Americans at the time assumed that they were less then the white man because of the society they were born in raised in, they believed the insults and felt inferior and entirely less powerful than anyone with white skin. Also, when blacks were taken to court they were often falsely accused of crimes and not given a fair trial by a white jury in the south especially. Lastly, blacks were often beat, taunted, and publicly executed by whites, and a biased police force and federal government would not step in to stop these cruelties.
