Rural Life in Texas

Since land was inexpensive in Texas many people bought land to farm and ranch so they could work for themselves. Most farmers only grew food crops; the most successful farms were the cash crop cotton and sugar cane farms. Farms also had livestock like cows, pigs, and chickens.
