The Birth of a Virgin
By Fra Carnevale

Describe:
-In this painting, there is a lot of detailing in the infrastructure of the building.
- The artist uses shading gentle and horizontal lines.
- Lots of use of arches and actual lines too
Analyze:
- The shading used to define the tiny lines in the building bring out the details.
- Use of edge lines to pastel and light shades to bring out the softness of the picture
- The picture has a very dynamic feel, lots of movement in the characters positions.
- The focal point is on the buildings details.
- Asymmetrical figures
- Geometric shapes in the buildings design
Interpret :
Fra Carnevale tried to portray the simplicity of new life, the things that a new born is bound to experience of life and the movement of life itself. The pastel colors used in this painting represents the purity of a virgin, in which Carnevale is trying to portray in this painting.
