The Green Car
By Williams James Glackens
Describe :
Glackens uses a lot of edge, implied, face- flowing lines to depict movement in organic and pastel colored shapes to create a still life portrait of daily life.
Analyze:
- Pastel colors dominate the picture.
- "The Green Car" is a static still-life piece but is very dynamic in it's shading and use of pastel and darker colors.
- Focal point is in the center of the work, a lot of the movement of the picture is found where the women is calling to the trolley.
-Organic shapes of trees and grass are repeated throughout the scene
scene
- Touch of pastel colors adds variety, visual interest is noticed by the artists clever attempt to paint the womens reflection in the gutter of brown colors on the road
Interpret:
- I believe Glackens is trying to depict his daily surroundings and the elements he is exposed to everyday such as trolleys and non-paved roads. He is using various organic shapes and color to depict the movement and dramatic change of his time.
