Republic of Texas Constitution
The authors agreed to keep some parts of the Republic's constitution. For example, they still allowed settlers from other states to continue bringing slaves with them to Texas. It also protected homesteads from being taken to pay debt. They still did not allow new ministers and priests to serve in the legislature, and the delegates protected.
They did this because they hadn't changed all their ideas and it was their first state constitution and second total.
