One major thing he accomplished is that he chose not to lead the country into war. He negotiated a truce in the Korean War only 6 months after taking office. For the rest of his presidency, there was peace, even if pressure during the Cold War was sometimes difficult.
Another accomplishment he had was that he didn't adopt policies that endangered the strong economic growth during the 1950s. He made decisions that moved the country forward and supported the construction of the Interstate Highway System. Although national security spending was high during previous years, the President didn't give in to temptations to spend even more. He knew that the nation's defenses were strong and he insisted that he wouldn't spend one penny less than was necessary to maintain national security.
Two Major Things He Accomplished:
