Proveglia Island, Italy

* This island was considerd to be a dumping ground for refuge, disease, dying, and deseased. In 1348 the Bubonic Plauge arrived and became a quarentined island, it killed 1 in 3 Europeans. Fearing for the spread of the disease, anyone who showed symptoms of the desease was taken to the island and were dumped into large pits to burned alive.
* In the late 1800's the island was converdes into an asylum, bt was poorly constructed nd had a lot of problems. Instead of being used to help people rehabilitate, they tortured them.
