Corruption and carelessness can be the result of people when the only thing they are after is wealth. In the book The Great Gatsby the setting is in the 1920's which shows this idea to be true. One example of a quote is, "She vanished into her rich house, into her rich, full life, leaving Gatsby —nothing. He felt married to her, that was all" (Fitzgerald 159). This explains how people were careless. The main character Gatsby was insanely in love with a woman named Daisy although she did not care about him one bit. All she was after was wealth. Another good quote is, "We’re getting off," he insisted. “I want you to meet my girl" (Fitzgerald 27). This points out how during the time people were corrupt and as mentioned before, careless as well. Daisy's husband was having an affair and he had no shame in showing off his mistress to everyone. Undoubtedly the '20s was depicted in many different ways.
