There are all types of people in this world. The kind that Fitzgerald uses in his book can be looked upon as thoughtless and immoral.
Thoughtless as in a person who does not care about anyone else's emotions for example the character Daisy Buchanan. Immoral as in a person who does not care about what is right or wrong for example Tom Buchanan. A song sung by the famous pop artist, Rihanna has a line which goes like, "We found love in a hopeless place." Rihanna. "We Found Love." Talk That Talk. Def Jam. 2011. CD. These specific words can be tied in with whatever Fitzgerald is trying to say about the 1920's because these lyrics itself are speaking out to those people who find themselves lost and addicted to something. In this case the addiction is money.
The song as a whole expresses a lot of emotion towards being hopeless. It also shows how when one gets caught up in something, it can be hard to get out of it. This connects to the idea of carelessness and corruption because in the book, the characters are only after being rich and they are so caught up in it that they do not realize who they are hurting. To sum it up the '20s was portrayed in many negative ways by Fitzgerald but all in all it was a significant time in our history.
