the mayans cleared land to make farms in as early as 1000bc. early mayan traders traded obsidian which was abundant in the area. the mayan civilization was on an area of two continents connecting, the north and South America. we call this area the americas.the northern continent had high mountains, deserts, grassy plains, and forests.
