mayan cities had grand buildings like pyramids, temples, and palaces. a very famous city, palenque was built in honor of king pacal. to improve life in the cities, builders made large plazas for public gatherings, and they built canals to control the flow of water through there cities. farmers shaped hills into flatland so they could produce more crops.
