Who was she? (Part 2)
In 1866, they both opened up the first Saint Joseph's school in an old stable for poor children. The school had free Catholic education. Two of Mary's sisters and other young women came to work there. On 1866 March 19th (Saint Joseph's day) Mary simply wore a black dress and started the Sisters of Saint Joseph, the Sacred Heart and dedicated her life to working for God.
Mary ran a safe house for women and an orphanage for kids. The Sisters visited people in jail that were poor and unwell, making them happy and at peace. Her whole life, Mary was kind and caring of everyone, even if they underestimated or didn't appreciate her work.
Mary had a stroke in 1902 and died of illness in 1909, in North Sydney at the age of 67. She specialised in helping the poor and young children. Mary was declared a saint from the Catholic Church on 17th October, 2010.
