What did they do?

Different slaves did different work. Some slaves were owned by kind people and were treated well, others lived a life of pure misery.

Depending on their skills, slaves could be trusted with these roles:
- Child carers
- Teachers
- Cooks
- Doctors

Sometimes Greek scholars were bought as tutors for rich children. Slaves of this type were often treated with respect and could earn their freedom after a certain amount of time.
However, there was many slaves who had to carry out tough manual labour in salt mines and quarries which had horrific conditions.
