Indulgences and Purgatory

-sold by Catholic church in order to get power to pope/church instead of people
-used to raise money for church
-relaxation of penalties for sins people had committed
-indulgences reduced punishment that person would receive for sins in purgatory
-purgatory:place souls went to before heaven
-in purgatory souls punished for sins committed in life
-by buying indulgences they'd pay for the sins they'd done
-power to church/rich pay after bad deeds enraged many Christians
