In exploding the field of medicine, women would have to be carful with their practise because they could of been accused of being a witch. Witches were believed to of caused the black plauge and the community put on trial anyone who was accused. The type of women mainly assummed to be witches were midwifes.
Midwifes could go to and from houses as they please and had access to ingredients for potions such as blood and placenta. They had to say their vows in front of a bishop which included to swear off any form of sorcery.
