The Canadian soldiers were going to be using a new plan which sir Arthur currie had planned were they would run across but with the protection of artillery shells land 100 meters in front of them . This plan allowed them to advance on the German ridge and they Successfully took the ridge in under a few hours .
The battle of vimy ridge was and important and significant during this time because it was a rare victory for the entente powers during the First World War. Capturing the ridge was a very important for the entente powers during this time as more ground , guns and German prisoners were taken in this battle then in the first half of the war, also the ridge was a great spot to look out as you were able to see german front lines ,This victory focused a lot of attention on Canadian soldiers because they were the only ones who took the ridge which would increase Canada's role on the western Line as British commanders began to trust Canadian soldiers ability to fight .
The victory of vimy ridge matters in our study of history today because many people believe that when the ridge was taken by Canadian forces Canada became a nation . We can see this as Canadian troops starting to get taken more seriously and started to develop it's own identity, this eventually led in to 1931, when King George 5th signed the Statue of Westminster: A trade and Military alliance of independent countries under the British Crown. The signing of the statue of Westminster 1931 did mark Canada’s official independence from Britian.
