Local Tornado
On May 11, 1953 a powerful F5 tornado struck downtown Waco, Texas. The tornado damaged or even destroyed hundreds of buildings, many of which were filled with people trying get out of the rain. Collapsing buildings was one of the main causes of death from this tornado. 114 people died from the tornado and injured 597 people. The tornado caused $41.2 million in damage which was over $310 million by today's standards.
