Cavour was born on August 1, 1810 in Turin Piedmont. Turin,at the time, was part of the kingdom of Sardinia which was under French rule. He was the second son to a family of nobles, and was encouraged to seek a military career. He pursued a military career from 1826 to 1831, but left to get involved in politics.
