What was shut down.

Schools I. The lower Manhattan area were evacuated and the subways running through New York City was closed for two hours after the attacks. Bridges and tunnels were closed due to non emergency traffic. Many people were walking to work instead of driving due to the debris from the attacks. Many buildings were closed and evacuated also.
