Lithosphere
Activities
The lithosphere is the rigid and outermost layer of the Earth. This layer is divided into tectonic plates. Essentially, we live on top of these tectonic plates. Here, we will learn about how these tectonic plates move and have a "Simon Says" game about plate tectonics and boundaries. For example, if Simon Says "Continent-Continent", half of the group will push two continental plates together to form mountains!
This will apply to all types of boundaries and geological formations.
This is a map of the world's tectonic plates.
THE DIFFERENT TYPES OF PLATE BOUNDARIES AND GEOLOGICAL FORMATIONS
Convergent Boundaries (3 types)
~ Continent-Continent Collisions form mountains
~ Continent-Oceanic Collisions form volcanoes
~ Oceanic-Oceanic Collisions form trenches
Divergent boundaries form mid-ocean ridges.
Transform boundaries form faults.
