CENTER

Outer Core & Inner Core

OUTER

CORE

The activity we have planned for our tourists in the outer core is snorkeling, swimming, surfing, and multiple other water-related activities! Think of the outer core as a heated pool, where the "water" isn't cold!

The outer core is liquid, not solid, because of the extremely- I repeat- extremely high temperatures. The liquid substance is molten rock. The outer core surrounds or "hugs"the inner core.

INNER

CORE

The inner core is essentially the center of the earth. It is the densest as well as the hottest layer in the Earth. This layer is place 6,380 km. below Earth's surface! Even though it is the hottest layer, the inner core is not a liquid but a solid. Can you guess why? It is because there so much pressure from the other layers pressing in it from all sides, compacting it and squeezing it into a smaller space. This immense pressure keeps the inner core solid.

The outer core and the inner core ARE NOT the same layer! They are SEPARATE!

However, the outer core and the inner core both are what makes up the core.

The core is mostly composed of iron and nickel. This is the reason for our next activity: mining! Each person will be given mining tools to start digging down into the inner core and picking out these two elements. This activity will also be a competition. Whoever has the most iron and nickel when time is up, they get a free iPad Mini! No charge at all!
