The Cult of Domesticity
Woman could not voyage or sit in juries in the early 1800s. When a woman got married her property and any money became her husbands.
Prevailing customs demanded that woman restrict their activities after marriage to the home and family. Housework and child care were the only proper activities for married woman. That later became known as the cult of domesticity.
