Major leaders in Abolition/Emancipation
David Walker was a free black who spoke out against slavery and he wrote "Appeal to the Colored Citizens of the World".
The most radical white abolitionist was an editor named William Lloyd Garrison. He started his own paper called "The Liberator" in 1831. He wanted to deliver an uncompromising message saying the freeing of slaves should have no payment to slaveholders. Charles G. Finney termed slavery as "a great national sin".
