By the 1820s more than 100 antislavery were advocating for resettlement of blacks in Africa. About 1,400 blacks emigrated to Africa between 1820 and 1830. White support abolition was fueled by preachers. 3 out of 4 subscribers were African Americans.
Garrison found the New Engalnd Anti-Slavery Society in 1832, followed by the national American Anti-Slavery Society a year later.
