In the renaissance people began to complain, about problems in church, so for the church leaders were called to focus on religion, and not problems. this led to reformation- to reform of western christianity.

Then as the church had new ways, they also found a way to collect money for the church. The used the sale off indulgences- a relaxation of penalties for sins people have committed.

From the church, the indulgences also depended where you would go after death, or after life. Some indulgences reduced the punishment of the persons sins to go to purgatory- a place where souls went before they went to heaven.
