-Heydrich's determination and diligence made the ss very successful. He improved his index card system greatly. He had many files on anyone that might oppose hitler and held ruthless investigations on nazi party members. He loved gossip and maintained folders of full of rumors and details of the private lives of top nazis. He later resorted to planting hidden microphones and cameras.

-because of this success he was was promoted to ss major, then ss colonel, then not long after ss Brigadier general. There was only one thing holding him back- the rumor about his jewish ancestry.

-both himmler and hitler were awAre of this rumor, and himmler almost expelled him from the ss because of it, but after hitler had a long meeting with heydrich, he decided he wanted to keep him.

Relationship with hitler

Hitler described him as "a highly gifted but also very dangerous man, whose gifts the movement had to retain...extremely useful; for he would eternally be grateful to us that we had kept him and not expelled him and would obey blindly."
