Mudpuppy- Necturus maculosus


mudpuppy: The mudpuppy diet consists of small fish and invertebrates like crayfish, snails and worms. Fish, snakes and birds will prey on mudpuppies.
Mudpuppy: Reproduction: Sperm is exchanged in fall and fertilization is internal. Eggs are laid in spring. Females lay eggs in a nest under
stones or logs at water depths over 10 cm. 18-180 eggs are laid at a time.

Mudpuppy adaptations-
their coloring is the same as the river bottom so during the day, they can stay hidden.
Mud puppies have short, laterally constructed tails which aid I swimming through the murky water.
They have sensory cells on the outside of their bodies that can sense predators such as larger fish, salamanders, and water snakes.
