Earth Hour 2015:
Cutting Carbon Pollution Helps Aussie Food & Farmers
Our 2014 successes provide strong foundations for Earth Hour 2015 to engage even more deeply with communities across Australia.
We have chosen a theme for Earth Hour 2015 that resonates with Australians from all walks of life: celebrating and committing to protect our great Aussie food and farmers.
Focusing on food and farming provides the following opportunities:
•Making the climate change message immediate and practical to Australians;
•Working with farmers, rural leaders and celebrity chefs as spokespeople and ambassadors for Earth Hour;
•Expanded outreach opportunities through restaurants, cafes, supermarkets and farmers’ markets;
•Engaging communications materials such as a mini-documentary and cookbook;
•Community Earth Hour events such as dinners and family-friendly picnics; emphasising the interactions between food, communities, and climate change;
•Capitalising on the enormous audiences of reality cooking TV shows - featuring Earth Hour across every TV network rather than just a single TV partnership.
Australia is a nation of food lovers. Almost 4 million of us tune into reality food shows like Masterchef and My Kitchen Rules, and farmers are amongst the voices we most trust.
Yet Australia’s agricultural industry is extremely vulnerable to the impacts of global warming, making food and farming a perfect theme to focus Earth Hour on in 2015.
