When people migrate to America, it's usually for one thing, to live the American Dream. People come from all over the world to seek a better life and forget their stressful past. The society focuses on progress. When people first move to America, they look for a bright future. I believe when people work hard and focus on progression, life will eventually reward you after you struggle. Life will get better and better. First, for example “Then came the war, old sport. It was a great relief, and I tried very hard to die, but I seemed to bear an enchanted life"(Gatsby 51). This means that life was difficult for Gatsby during the war, but as time went on, he become more happy with himself. Also, in the novel it said "For over a year he had been beating his way along the south shore of Lake Superior as a clam-digger and a salmon-fisher or in any other capacity that brought him food and bed"(nick 74). This quote means that Gatsby worked very hard just to get food and a place to sleep. As life went on and he become wealthy, Gatsby didn't need to worry about things like this anymore. In the story, The Great Gatsby, Mr. Gatsby went through crucial times in his past. He learned from these events and turned around his life.
