In the novel, the Great Gatsby, the author Fitzgerald had many views of the society in his lifetime. Fitzgerald tries to inform his audience, from his work on the Great Gatsby, about how the society was all about gaining opportunities and having fun. He showed this by first writing "I believe that on the first night I went to Gatsby’s house I was one of the few guests who had actually been invited. People were not invited — they went there"(33 Nick). I feel like this means that individuals attended parties without a invitation because they were just looking to have a good time with their friends. Fitzgerald described how the society had opportunities in various ways. For example, “Well, this would interest you. It wouldn’t take up much of your time and you might pick up a nice bit of money. It happens to be a rather confidential sort of thing"(63 Gatsby). This shows how even when Nick worked in the bond business and was living an average lifestyle, with no struggles, other doors were still open for him. The brilliant author, Fitzgerald, depicts the 1920s era as a time where individuals had many opportunities and liked to enjoy themselves.
