Reason for Decline

Even though scientists don't fully understand why the species is in decline, they believe it is linked to them getting caught in traps meant for other animals, the disappearance of vast tracts of mesquite thickets and shrubs, mass clearing of native brush lands for agriculture and livestock pastures, and possibly for farmers hunting them for tendency for poultry predation
