It is believed that sometime in the 1930's the Fire Ant arrived in America in the soil that ships used for ballast. The ships entered the port of Mobile, Alabama and the ant was introduced into America. As of now Fire Ants exist in 13 American states including California and North Carolina. Due to the fact that red ants are highly adaptable to temperature and climate changes the red ant was able to thrive in America also the fact that each red ant in a colony has a specific role to play means it is a highly efficient species for example: queens lay eggs, young ants take care of the eggs and the pupae, older ants help to build the nest, other ants guard the nest, some forage for food and others clear debris from the nest meaning all the ants work together to survive. Finally the fact that red ants are extremely aggressive and strong when working together allowed them to take down large prey and defend against invaders these attributes helped them to increase in population in America.
