Longhorns - Spaniards brought cattle when they started settling Texas. Some people let them go to see if they could survive on their own, Some cattle just escaped. Eventually all of the wandering herds interbred to create the Longhorns. Long horns could survive harsh conditions and used their huge horns as protection.
