Motor Cars

Cars were becoming a regular sight in the towns and cities. Many people started to buy cars, but the towns were not set up well for them. The roads weren't sealed, resulting in a rough ride for most. In September 1914, Francis Birtles became the first persons to drive across Australia in a car, a 3500 mile journey (in a 20 h-p Ford). In 1914,
Ford was selling one car a day.
