On February 19, 1846, President Anson Jones gave his farewell address and Texas celebrated its new statehood. Even so, Texas was still a frontier state. The frontier line stretched several hundred miles from the Red River to the Rio Grande. As the years grew on Texas went through rapid changes as industry and towns grew.
