Education

President Lamar had set aside land for public schools, yet little progress had been made. Most Anglo American kids attended private schools that their communities or churches made. Most schools were just one room constructed of logs. Governor Elisha M. Pease signed a law in 1854 to set aside $2 million for a special school fund. Even so schools were lacking money. Many institutes and colleges were also made in this time. In 1876 the Permanent School Fund was established to ensure future support for public education. Now the fund is worht more than $20 million.
