During the period of the Cold War where there were no major armed conflicts but always was a threat of a nuclear war, the U.S and the Soviet Union both established military alliances with other countries. In order to go against the Soviet forces, the United States created NATO, and the Soviet Union created the Warsaw Treaty Organization in response to U.S' action. However, despite military alliances, U.S military power was superior to the Soviet forces.
