The Cold War was called the 'cold' war because it involved no major armed conflicts. However, in the Korean War that took place on 25 June, 1950, North and South Korea fought each other with the support of the United States and the Soviet Union, respectively. With the surprise attack of the North Koreans, the war began as the South Koreans in response sought to push them back beyond the thirty-eighth parallel.
