Even though clams are small they have a pretty impressive digestive system. Clams are filter feeders so the just open their mouths and their body does the rest. The gills separate particles, the cilia then sends the algae to the mouth, the labial palps sort the food before entering the mouth, food then travels to stomach where it is broken down, makes it to the digestive gland where it is broken down more and sent to the intestine, the intestine captures the proteins and nutrients then sends the waste to the rectum passage. That is pretty amazing for a little clam.

The frogs digestive system is just as complex and very similar to that of a clams. Although a frog is much larger, it still serves the same function.

The DIGESTIVE System
