1. On April 18,1942, the United States bombed Tokyo, but it did very little to actually damage Japan, instead Doolittle’s Raid only boosted the confidence of the United States.

2. First “true” battle was the Battle of the Coral Sea, which was more of a testing ground for either side, as not much was done there, except for an allied victory with the liberation of Australia. Faught entirely with planes, neither side saw each other’s ships, as it was fought with planes, and each side lost one carrier.

3. The Battle of Midway was a victory for the Americans and it was a turning point in the pacific war because the Japanese started to withdraw their troops and started being more defensive. The US lost1 carrier, which they were able to replace. However, the Japanese lost 4 carriers, 1 heavy cruiser, 332 planes, and 3057 men, none of which they were able to replace.

4. Japan implemented a new plan which would cause them to only conquer strategic islands in the Pacific, and would ignore the rest because it would be a waste of manpower. This was called Island Hopping.
