Transportation in the 1850's was mainly still horses and wagons. At least in Texas. But we did see some improvement. In most rives we established a line of steam boats that helped transport people. We also used stagecoaches to move people, to some freight. In the 1850's we also began to create a railroad system, and by 1860 about 400 miles were laid down and ready for use.
