The Catholic Church did something known as the Catholic reformation. This was done as a result of protestants gaining more power and catholics losing power. The King and Queen of Spain worked to make Catholicism the only religion. The Spanish Inquisition was also made as well to punish those practicing another religion.
While the Catholic reforms, a new society was made by Ignatius of Loyola, which became known as the Jesuits. Jesuits were a religious society that followed the pope and the church. The goal of Jesuits was to teach Catholic ideas to turn people away from Protestant ideas. As a result, more catholic education was spread.
