Why Do We Have Unleaded Gas?

The main reason that cars use unleaded fuel, is because nowadays it's the law. The Clean Air Act Amendments of 1990 required the elimination of lead from all U.S fuel by January 1, 1996. It is now 2014 and those amendments are still in effect . This amendment was put in place because of the toxicity of lead. Lead can cause damage to the central nervous system at high concentrations. The concentration of lead was increasing due to car emissions so it had to be outlawed for our health.
