All women that were married stayed at home as house wives. They took care of the house and children. The men would work and support the family. There was a big gambling and alcohol abuse problem in the 1900s. Men would be using all their money on alcohol and gambling leaving nothing for his family. Women knew that this was a problem and had to try and stop it. Talking to them would not work, but at the time, it was the only thing they could do.

They then came up with different ideas to deal with the situation. If the men wouldn’t listen to them, they had to take matters into their own hands. Some of them decided to try and find jobs to support their families themselves, but in order for that to work, they needed bank accounts, which they were not allowed to have. They weren’t allowed to leave their own homes either because they weren’t allowed to own property

At that time women couldn’t do anything about their problems because they were not considered as people.
