Displacement & Using a Graduated Cylinder
The water displacement is used when you need to measure an irregular object that cannot be measured using the regular formula for for finding volume. What you do is fill up a graduated cylinder to any mark (using milliliters) and measure that point on the graduated cylinder. Then, you put the object in the cylinder and measure the level of the water after doing so. After doing all of this, you find the difference between the two measurements and then you have the volume, in mL, of the object.
