Energy Transformations

Wind mills (or wind turbines) collect wind energy which is transformed into mechanical energy (movement) which is transformed into electrical energy.

Batteries use chemical energy transformed to electrical energy which is transformed into mechanical energy.

Heat energy causes particle movement. When you put a cup of hot coffee on the counter, the particles are moving quickly (this is kinetic energy). The particles in the cup are also moving and so are the particles in the air. Everything wants to reach homeostasis or equilibrium, so eventually all those particles will reach the same speed and everything will become the same temperature.

Energy is not lost, but conserved as it is transferred and transformed because energy cannot be created or destroyed.
