Kennedy arrived in Fort Worth, Texas on the morning of November 22, 1963. Thousands of people were cheering for the president by the hotel where he was staying. He had come out and talked to the crowd, saying, ""There are no faint hearts in Fort Worth and I appreciate your being here this morning. Mrs. Kennedy is organizing herself. It takes longer, but, of course, she looks better than we do when she does it." The crowd was so grateful that the President took time to talk to them. He later orated the short flight to Dallas and once arriving, took the time to go up and meet with all of his supporters. His wife was getting flowers and all sorts of special gifts from people. Kennedy made his way in an open convertible from the airport to go on a ten mile commute to were he was supposed to have lunch. Crowds of people were stretched out for all of those ten miles of the route Kennedy was on. People would have excitement turn to fear in a short amount of time
Around 12:30, the President's vehicle came off of Main Street at Delaley Plaza. This is when gunfire broke out. Kennedy, sitting defenseless in his vehicle, was shot in the neck and in the head. The governor of Texas, who was with Kennedy, was also hit by the bullets and suffered injuries to his chest. Kennedy was taken to Parkland Memorial Hospital, where he would be pronounced dead at the age of 46. His body would be placed on Air Force One and be brought back to Washington DC. His Vice President, Lyndon B Johnson, would be sworn in as the next US President on the plane to DC. Kennedy's wife Jackie would stand by Johnson's side
